The actions of President Donald Trump in his second term are what spurred me to start this website. Trump is determined to transform the United States from a democracy to an autocracy headed by him. Worse yet, a plurality of Americans support that. There’s a lot to talk about, and now is the time for me to speak up if there ever was one. For that, I need a decent blogging platform.
I started becoming more vocal on Facebook, but it’s a poor social media platform and even poorer for blogging. I checked out some blogging websites, but they were afflicted with the same poison pills: ads, poorly designed non-adaptive layouts that waste screen space, insufficiently flexible cataloging of blog entries, incessant popups asking you to sign up for alerts or spamletters, and so forth. So, I decided to build my own website using the WordPress platform. It’s a steeper learning curve but worth the freedom.
This is not a pure anti-Trumpism website. I have other interests, and this website gives me an ideal vehicle to share those with the public. I’ll keep my political and technical interests compartmentalized as feasible, but sometimes they intersect.
Another goal is to provide my readers with trustworthy and useful information. It’s hard to know what to believe, even from the major media outlets. A large swath of the population lives in their own information bubbles. Another large swath is overwhelmed with not knowing what to believe, which can lead to nihilism. Neither information bubbles nor nihilism are healthy in a self-governing society. In order to get good information, you have to go find it and become something of a subject-matter expert. It’s a lot of time and effort, which one must be willing to spend to become a well-informed citizen. Because it takes so much time, I have to be selective about which subjects I find most important or interesting. On this website I share what I’ve learned and come to think with anyone interested. I assume my readers want to be as well informed as I do.
